Interim Provost Named

Belton, Texas - Dr. Steve Oldham, associate professor of religion and philosophy in the College of Christian Studies, was recently named interim provost/vice president for academic affairs at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

"Dr. Oldham is a well-respected member of the faculty and is passionate about Christian higher education and the continued excellence of our academic programs at UMHB," said Randy O'Rear, executive vice president and chief operating officer for the university. "He brings a ‘grass-roots' perspective to this interim position."

Oldham, who has been teaching at UMHB since 2000, has also served as the director of the Honors Program and on numerous administrative and academic committees, including the strategic planning committee and core curriculum committee.

The recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, Oldham most recently received the Gamma Beta Phi Faculty/Staff Award and the Stellar Performance Award at UMHB. He has had many publications and presentations in the areas of religion and philosophy. He is also a member of several professional organizations and in 2007, was named vice president of the Southwest Region of the American Academy of Religion.

Oldham earned a Doctorate of Philosophy from Baylor University; a Master of Theology degree from Bethel Seminary in St Paul, Minnesota; a Master of Divinity degree from the Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Minneapolis, Minnesota; and a Bachelor of Arts degree in biblical studies from Pillsbury College in Owatonna, Minnesota.
